Do you struggle with all the mathematics and probability in Texas Holdem? Well, these advanced Holdem tips on probability will make it easy for you.
Face it, Texas Holdem is practically maths. Cards, card games, betting, gambling - it all comes down to probability. If you aren't up to speed on this critical area you aren't going to make it very far. That's why these advanced Holdem tips are going to help you immensely.
There's a quick and easy little trick to calculate almost any odds instantly. This makes estimating probability a breeze. Check it out, its great. I use it all the time when I'm too lazy to do the long division.
Advanced Holdem Tips: Multiplying By 4
You can use this method to calculate your chance (your probability) of achieving your outs for any hand after the flop.
Step 1 - Count your outs. Your outs are the cards that you need to make your hand to win.
I.e. Say you have a 9-8 unsuited. Then the flop comes, K-9-6. So you have a pair of 9's.
Your outs here are: the two 9's left in the deck (because you would make a set) and the three 8's left in the deck (because you would have two of a kind).
So in this example you have five outs.
Step 2 - Now, multiply your number of outs by four.
So 5x4 = 20
So, you have approximately a 20% chance of getting your outs on the turn or the river. The exact number is actually 21.2%. But multiplying by four is close enough every time you do it. This works for almost any number of outs and you'll only be out by 1 or 2 percent (which isn't much in the grand scheme of things)
So that's it. Pretty easy right? All you have to do is calculate your outs, then multiply that by four, and you will have your approximate percentage chance of making those outs. Use this next time your at the poker table to give you an easy edge over the decisions you have to make.
